When my daughter disclosed what had been happenning to her I felt utter devastation. Why didn’t I protect her? How could this have happenned in our family? I felt helpless; like I had failed as a father. I just didn’t see it coming.
~ Father of a child survivor
The above quote is from a protective father recounting his feelings in the aftermath of learning that his daughter was being sexually assaulted by a close family friend. It is families like this one that are helped by Bravehearts’ counselling services – services that we are asking for your help to support, with the gift of a donation this Christmas.
Parents, grandparents, siblings – a family can feel as though their world is being torn apart after a child (or adult survivor) discloses harm. These families turn to Bravehearts to guide them through this tumultuous time and help them help their loved ones to recover from the trauma that has been inflicted on them by this crime.
Survivors and their family members can feel guilt, hopelessness, anger and shame. Our counsellors help them work through these emotions. A Christmas gift from you of $150 will cover the cost of one counselling session to help a family like the one above learn how to support their loved one.
All donations over $2 are tax deductible – ABN: 41 496 913 890
