Port Adelaide runner Chris Glacken will conquer his 154th marathon this Sunday in support of child protection charity Bravehearts.
Chris, or ‘Glacks’ as he is better known, is the founder of coastalfunruns and dedicates his marathons to raising funds to protect children from sexual harm.
He has so far raised $80,000, which is being used by Bravehearts to educate and empower children to keep safe through their highly effective personal safety program Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure.
“I use my love of running to drive home the message of preventing child sexual assault. I am a father and a grandfather, so child protection is very important to me,” says Chris.
Close to 250 people have already registered to join Chris at Sunday’s event, where runners have the choice to tackle a variety of distances ranging from 2km to 50km. Participants (called ‘Braverunners’) will wear Bravehearts’ purple and there will be medals awarded to everyone who competes. Trophies will be awarded to first place male and female runners in each distance category, as well as a prize for best dressed.
Bravehearts CEO, Wilma James says the CostalFunRuns events are a positive way to encourage community support and awareness about the crime of child sexual assault.
“We know that, for the most part, child sexual assault is preventable. We just need adults to step up and prioritise the safety of our most vulnerable members of the community,” says Mrs James.
The event is on Sunday 25 February, with the first marathon kicking off at 9:05 am. If you would like to join Chris and his ‘Braverunners’, details and registration links can be found here: https://www.registernow.com.au/secure/Register.aspx?E=27895
