Counselling and Support


Bravehearts sets the standard in the provision of specialist therapeutic services and support to children and young people, adults and non-offending family members affected by child sexual assault.

The Bravehearts Counselling Service consists of Psychologists and Counsellors who specialise in assisting children and families to overcome symptoms by using evidence based interventions and best practice. Our Counselling Service does not investigate child sexual assault rather our focus is working with children and families to manage psychological symptoms that have resulted from their trauma.

Services provided:

  • Counselling for children 5-18 years of age;
  • Counselling for non-offending family members;
  • Counselling for adult survivors;
  • Parent education and support;
  • Protective behaviour education;
  • Early intervention for youths at risk of harmful sexual behaviours (Turning Corners program)
  • National freecall telephone crisis support and information (1800 BRAVE 1 – 1800 272 831);
  • Group programs;
  • Sexual Assault Disclosure Scheme (SADS);
  • Advocacy; and
  • Professional training.

Bravehearts welcomes agency referrals. Referral forms can be DOWNLOADED HERE, or alternatively, we can fax or email one to you upon request by phoning 1800 272 831.

Bravehearts also accepts all suitable referrals from parents, carers, Child Safety Services, Queensland Police, Schools, General Practitioners, and other agencies. Please contact 1800 272 831 to make a referral.


Bravehearts receives financial support from a variety of funding bodies, with 60% of operational costs donated. Bravehearts is funded in some locations to deliver counselling at no cost to you, please discuss your eligibility with the Intake Team. For those who are not eligible for free counselling, there are a number of programs available to assist in reducing the cost to enable you to access our counselling service, including Medicare Better Access program. The Intake Team or your GP will be able to provide further information about this program and assess your suitability. Alternatively, we can offer a fee for service using a sliding scale based on your income to determine fees per counselling sessions. Counselling services operate from Strathpine (North Brisbane), Springwood (South Brisbane), Caboolture, Arundel (Gold Coast).  If you are not able to access either of these services, we are able to provide referral information for other services and counsellors. Our Telephone Crisis Support and Information Service is available Nationally via our free call number 1800 BRAVE 1 (1800 272 831).
