SUPPORTING HANDS ONLINE COURSE FOR GENERAL SCHOOL STAFF

Non-academic staff also have an accountability in protecting students at your school. Grounds keepers, administration, sports coaches and volunteers have varied levels of interaction with children and should know how to respond to child protection matters.

The Supporting Hands online course provides information on the prevalence of child abuse and neglect with a focus on sexual assault and how it effects people throughout their life. The self-paced course also discusses how offenders create opportunities to offend and best practice methods in responding to a child should they disclose to you.

SPECIALIST PROGRAMS FOR SPORT COACHES AND OTHER CO-CURRICULAR STAFF

Contracted or casual visiting teachers such as sports coaches or music tutors, often establish a stronger rapport with students compared to other staff within the school community. This can lead to increased probability of identifying signs of harm and also concerning behaviours among their colleagues.

Our tailored program for sports coaches and other co-curricular staff provide necessary knowledge and skills to work with children and young people with confidence.

TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR BOARDING HOUSES

Boarding Houses are an important feature of many schools and have for generations afforded young people educational and social development opportunities perhaps not accessible to them otherwise. The Boarding House is a unique environment where schools have an increased duty of care to assure the safety and well being of boarders.

Specialist staff often act in dual roles between the classroom and the Boarding House and in turn carry a greater responsibility arising from closer relationships with boarders. By virtue of this, boarders are more likely to present with matters of concern or disclose harm to a Boarding House staff member.

Our Boarding House workshop is one full day and provides staff with the advanced level of knowledge required to act appropriately and with confidence when working in the Boarding House environment.

TRAINING FOR OUT-OF-SCHOOL-HOURS CARE STAFF

Similar to co-curricular and sporting programs, out-of-school-hours care (OSHC) services are increasingly popular within schools. Whilst, programs may be managed by third party contracted providers, schools still maintain an obligation to ensure students engaged in OSHC programs are receiving the highest levels of care.

Often, workers in OSHC programs have a closer level of interaction with children and young people and also their parent or carers. This relationship can mean these specialist staff may notice different indicators of harm and may be exposed to circumstances of greater child protection risk.

Bravehearts’ specialised programs for OSHC workers provide contextualised knowledge and skills that equips staff working in these environments to carry out their roles with confidence and capability.
