Bravehearts Youth Advisory Council
Bravehearts Youth Advisory Council (B-YAC) provides an avenue for the voices of children and young people to inform and provide youth perspectives on the work of Bravehearts and our sector partners.
B-YAC provides young people with the opportunity to be actively involved in our core remit – to prevent child sexual abuse in our society. We strongly believe that through meaningful engagement, we are all better equipped to understand and address issues, resulting in more effective responses and programs with greater impact.
Youth Advisory Council Members
I have been the Youth Ambassador of Bravehearts for the past 3 years. I am a 16yo Year 11 high school student with aspirations of becoming a Lawyer and Politician. In 2022 I won the 7News Queensland Young Achievers Award for Connecting Communities and had the honour of addressing the delegates at the 2021 National Child Protection Forum in Darwin. I am passionate about Child Safety and working alongside Bravehearts to help reduce Child Sexual Abuse. Being a part of the Bravehearts Youth Advisory Committee gives me the chance to work with like-minded young people to help make changes and protect Australia’s children.
I’m a passionate advocate for ensuring the voices of young diverse Australians are heard. In 2021, I was elected Youth Minister for Health, Emergency, Disability Services and Seniors. I established the electorate’s first Youth Advisory Committee with students from each school and university. I am also the founder of “Crafts and Convos”, a youth-led program that aims to empower girls by providing a safe space for them to instigate discussions on topics like mental and sexual health. I aim to use these unique perspectives to inform and help Bravehearts protect and prevent the sexual assault and exploitation of children.
I’m extremely passionate about addressing the issues of sexual harassment and assault within our generation and have been working with Bravehearts since 2021. I was the Youth Member for Gaven in the Queensland Youth Parliament, serving on the Justice, Legal Affairs and Corrections portfolio, and now study Law (Hons) and International Relations at the Australian National University. I served on the Queensland Family and Child Commission’s Youth Advisory Council, the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority’s Student Reference Group, and hold a leadership position within the ANU Law Students’ Society, working particularly around Social Justice. I hope to bring the ideas and experiences I have gained throughout my varied advocacy work into my conversations with Bravehearts in order to enact long-lasting change.
I’m in year 9 and I am strongly passionate about ensuring all children and youth are protected from exploitation and can grow up in a safe environment.
I’m also passionate about preventing sexual harassment and assault. I see and hear many stories surrounding these issues and I think change is vital. I really want to help improve sex education programs in schools, which is one of the reasons I joined the Bravehearts Youth Advisory Council.
In my free time, I like to write, skate and play the piano. In 2022, my team and I were the joint junior winners of the Videos For Change competition.
I am also interested in pursuing law and/or international relations when I finish school because I believe that it’s really important to advocate for people.
I am a passionate advocate for child protection, mental health, and disability inclusion, with a passion for fostering positive change and empowering vulnerable communities. As a member of the Bravehearts Youth Advisory Council, I contribute my expertise in youth justice, advocacy, and trauma-informed care to support Bravehearts’ mission of preventing child sexual abuse and supporting survivors.
I am currently studying Psychology at the University of Sydney with a minor in Criminology, aiming to specialise in clinical and forensic psychology, focusing on child sexual abuse and domestic violence. Alongside my studies, I work as a Suicide Prevention Peer Worker with NSW Health, where I advocate for trauma-informed, recovery-focused care. I also serve as an Advocate/College Member for the National Centre for Action on Child Sexual Abuse, driving survivor-led change by amplifying the voices of survivors to shape healing-centred policies and programs.
My experiences have further guided my work with the NSW Department of Education Disability Strategy Reference Group, where I help develop inclusive education policies for students with disabilities. I am committed to using my empathy, leadership, and advocacy to create meaningful change, both within the Bravehearts Youth Advisory Council and in my broader professional roles
I graduated from UQ with Psychology (Honours) at the end of 2022.
I’m currently working at the Queensland Centre for Mental Health Research (QCMHR) as a Research Officer within the Policy and Epidemiology Stream. We are conducting a review of the Adolescent Day Programs run statewide to ensure they are functioning in line with the model of service.
I’m a fierce advocate for preventing child sexual abuse and exploitation and am hoping to work in the field one day. I adore my British Bulldog Luna who loves to swim and reading true crime books. I’m so grateful to be a part of such a wonderful group of young people and researchers.

Unlikemany of my admirable peers in the Bravehearts Youth Advisory Committee, I don’t have an advocacy background, I have an educational background.
I believe every child has a right to know what is ok, what is not ok, and whether they have been violated. I believe I can help design and deliver the education needed for all levels in an engaging, age-appropriate, and informative way. I have already started doing this on my placements and I am excited about learning more in this space through the committee
Through my strong consent knowledge, too often I have had to be the one to explain to people that what has happened to them is not ok. This is what has motivated me to try to make positive change and do my part to prevent child sexual exploitation.
Jess Stone is an 18-year-old lived experience advocate. She is passionate about protecting young people from exploitation through CSAM. In 2024, she represented the Nudgee electorate in the Queensland Youth Parliament and was awarded the 7 News “Local Legend” Community Achievement Award. I am a TEDx Speaker, Co-Founder and Chair of the RUOK? Youth Board. I founded Academy of Speakers; an organisation dedicated to building resilience, self-confidence and self-esteem in children that has taught over 400+ students. Currently, I am studying a Bachelor of Commerce and Law at the University of Sydney. I also work full-time at UBS and I am an Advisory Board Member for Maxme, a self-development tech start-up focusing on how to increase customer acquisition and user retention.
I am a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of International Relations student at the ANU. I currently work with a wide range of organisations including Amnesty International Australia, the Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network, and the Climate Justice Union. Through this, I have developed experience across a diversity of domains including in advocacy, capacity building and entrepreneurship. Broadly though, I am passionate about creating a safer world for youth. Such an important facet of this is preventing child sexual abuse and I am excited to work alongside other young people to contribute to Bravehearts’ mission.
I am studying a Master of Clinical Psychology and I am passionate about fostering safe communities where children and young people can thrive. I am dedicated to preventing child sexual assault, exploitation, and sexual violence for people of all ages. I love to get involved in my community, particularly through peer support, mental health and youth advocacy, service design, research, program development, and trauma prevention and recovery.

I am currently studying Bachelor in Psychology minoring in Criminology at Western Sydney University. I work as the Youth Influencing Officer and also as a Young Consultant for the CREATE FOUNDATION working in supporting young people in out-of-home care and I work As a mentor in The Intensive Support OOHC Adolescent Program with Recovery Coach.
I currently sit on the Mental Health Commissions Suicide Prevention Council and ACAYP Youth Steering Committee. When I am not working, in a meeting or studying, I enjoy photography, a good book, good food, and watching my 2 Year old attempting to scale the baby gates, trying to figure out how to walk in my heels and him to apply my makeup.
I joined the Youth Council with Bravehearts not only to help be a part of their mission in preventing exploitation of children, supporting survivors and most importantly educating young people and adults on prevention, warning signs and the impacts of exploitation of children, but also because I have a Personal Connection. To me, their mission is particularly important as I was a Victim and now I am a Survivor of child exploitation. I am hoping to use that experience to make a contribution to positive change for all those affected by exploitation.
