As another White Balloon Day approaches, the message from our team at Bravehearts couldn’t be stronger – child protection is everyone’s job.
It’s not solely the responsibility of parents and grandparents. Teachers and police officers can only do so much. When it comes to keeping the country’s most vulnerable souls safe from harm, we all have a role to play.
That’s why this White Balloon Day – Friday, 6 September – we’re asking all Australians to make the ‘Pledge to Protect’ children – a gesture that costs nothing and takes less than 30 seconds but shows the Federal Government the number of people passionate about child protection.
We’re also asking supporters to post a photo on social media of themselves at work or in their family role holding up their hand with ‘Protect Kids’ written on it.
They say it takes a village to raise a child and the same goes for protecting them. It doesn’t matter what one’s job is, we all have a responsibility to speak up if we see something that doesn’t seem right when it comes to children.
For 23 years we have used White Balloon Day to inspire a conversation about society’s greatest scourge.
This year it’s time to go a step further and formally declare we will not only talk the talk but walk the walk when it comes to protecting our children.
White Balloon Day is one of our key fundraisers for the year, with events as simple as white morning teas, wear-white-to-work (or school) days or wear-white walk raising precious dollars for education, counselling, training and case management services.
